Photos of the Week - The Streets of Pingyao

Qian and I went to Pingyao for a few days in February of 2008. It was a very relaxing few days. I wrote an article about it for Chinatravel.net here.

Would like to read the travel article but the link won't work for me.

While your on photos, where was that photo taken that is at the top of the blog. Is that you in the photo? Thats a great photo.

Please consider using JPEG instead of PNG for photos — the page takes too long to load…

@Hopfrog - I fixed the link. Forgot to add the http:// to the link. Should work now.

@Anonymous - I'd like to use .jpg, but there is a complicated reason why I don't. I didn't realize the timing on the .png was slower. For the future, I'll try to use .jpg instead.

Oh yeah, Hopfrog. The picture at the top of the page is from Karakul Lake out in Xinjiang Province near the border of Pakistan.

That is indeed me in the picture. My brother snapped it.

Karakul Lake is one of the most amazing places I've ever been. It's at 13,000 feet in the Pamir Mountain range on the Karakoram Highway. The lake is surrounded by like the 37th, 41st, and 43rd tallest mountains in the world.

I highly recommend spending some time there!

Just read your travel article. I knew nothing about Pingyao, but now I hope I can get there before it modernizes. What a cool step back in time.

It is worth checking out, Hopfrog.

Definitely check it out if you're in Beijing or Xi'an. It's a really great stopover between the two places, actually.
